In this renovation, parts of the original one-storey house were preserved to reduce carbon footprint and combined with climate-responsive passive design. A compact two-storey mass was placed at the center of the site to create front and rear open spaces, with communal areas below and the master bedroom above. A void and skylight enable stack-effect ventilation, while large openings and a perforated brick secondary skin provide natural light, privacy, and heat control. Simulations showed sufficient daylight, acceptable thermal comfort with ceiling fans, an OTTV of 24.40 W/m²—better than the local requirement—and up to 50% energy savings, or about 7,824 kWh per year without air conditioning, placing the house in the “extremely efficient” category.
